Jane A. Ray

Jane Ann Ray of Derby, Kansas, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 12, 2024.


Jane was born March 24, 1933, to Claude and Una Marion in Stella, Missouri. She graduated from Fairview High School, Fairview, Missouri, where she met her future husband. Jane married John Earl Ray on July 3, 1951, and they were married for 63 years until his passing in 2014.


Her faith in God was the hallmark of her life. She served as a Sunday School teacher for more than 30 years. Jane worked for a local bank in Derby for nearly 20 years and also as an office manager for a medical practice in Wichita, Kansas for many years.


Jane is survived by her sons, Jeff Ray and wife Susan of Leawood, Kansas; Kevin Ray and wife Brandy of Shawnee, Kansas; grandson Austin Ray and wife Kristen of Olathe, Kansas; granddaughter Bristol Ann Ray of Shawnee, Kansas; and great-grandsons Calvin and Colton Ray of Olathe, Kansas.


She was preceded in death by her brother Edwin Marion in 2015. Jane is also survived by two brothers, Terry Marion and wife Rhonda, and Stan Marion and wife Janet, of Neosho, Missouri; a sister, Sandra McCann of Neosho, Missouri, and a sister-in-law, Nola Marion of Ozark, Missouri.


Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 North Rock Road, Derby, Kansas. Graveside service to immediately follow at El Paso Cemetery in Derby. Visitation will be held with family present on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Smith Family Mortuary.


In lieu of flowers, Jane suggested that memorial contributions may be made to Grace Sunday School Class, Pleasantview Baptist Church, 1335 N. Buckner St., Derby, Kansas 67037.
