Jane Billingsley, 83, retired Special Education educator, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017. Jane was one of the original Head Start teachers, and one of the original Special Ed teachers, a Special Olympics organizer, a member and past President (1983-84) of the Derby National Education Association, a member of the committee to build the new Derby High School, and a very involved Democratic Party volunteer. A memorial gathering will be held 1-5 pm, Saturday, November 11, with family receiving friends 3-5 pm, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Jane was born October 18, 1934 in Dallas, TX to Ellis and Mattie Bailey. They preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Charles H. Billingsley. Survivors: sons, James (Lupe), of Grapevine, TX, and John (Sherrie), of Derby; daughters, Janet Billingsley, of Murfreesboro, TN, and Joan Blencoe (Greg), of Derby; grandchildren, Carlos, Melinda and Jacob Billingsley; Bretley Laramore (Grant), Paige Huitt (Parker), William Travis (Ashlynn) and Tyler Travis (Ana), and Dustin Blencoe; great-grandchildren, Grace Billingsley, Benjamin Laramore and Parker Huitt II.
