James Meridan Mcintosh

February 23, 1929 — February 16, 2025

James Meridan McIntosh, Jr was born to James Meridan McIntosh, Sr and Clara Blanch (Honaker) McIntosh February 23, 1929, in Weston, Missouri. He attended public schools in Kansas City, Kansas, graduating from Argentine High School in 1946. After graduation he joined the Navy Reserves and was discharged in August of 1952. He also graduated from Kansas City Bible College in 1951 with a certificate, from Friends University in 1966 with a BA in Bible from Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary (now Palmer Seminary) with a Masters of Divinity degree in 1973 and a Doctor of Ministry degree in 1977.


James married Margaret Ellen Elliott July 22, 1949, and together they had three children: James Michael, Mauritza Ann, and John Mark.


He pastored churches in Kansas. Pennsylvania, and Illinois over a forty-two year period and retired from the First Baptist Church, Decatur, Illinois in 1992. He also served several churches in Kansas and Illinois as an Interim Pastor, and one year as an Interim Area Minister for the American Baptist Churches of the Central Region.


While living in Derby, Kansas he volunteered time with the Derby Senior Center as a Bible Teacher, with the Readers Theatre, both the children’s division and the adult division. He was a trumpet player, singer and Emcee for the senior band the Linwood Music Makers. He also directed an instrumental trio. “The Sentimental Trio” out of the band.


James was preceded in death by his brother Robert of Kansas City and his son Michael of Rose Hill. He is survived by his wife Margaret of Wichita, his daughter Mauritza of Georgetown, Delaware, and his son John Mark (Lisa) of Derby, Kansas, nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter.


Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday February 22, 2025 and the service will be held at the Prairie Homestead Senior Living, 1605 W May St. Wichita, Kansas 67213.
