James Horn

November 8, 1947 — January 5, 2021

James Oliver Horn, 73, Wichita, KS, passed away January 5, 2021 from complications due to COVID 19. He proudly served in the United States Army, one year of which was in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged in 1969, he married Cheryl Waldhart and together they had four children. In 1990, he married Virginia Gehlen and happily spent the remainder of his life with her. James was a hard worker who always supported and loved his family. He was a mechanic by trade and worked on various farm equipment and vehicles through the years. He retired in 2011 from John Deere. In retirement, he enjoyed visiting with neighbors, tinkering with motors and fishing/boating on the lake.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Mart and Estelle Horn; four siblings, Roy, Robert, Boyd, and Janice. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Horn of Wichita; five children, Shane Horn and Cindy Terrill of Wichita; Melinda Horn of Foster, OK; Rebecca (Rajan) Mahajan of Baton Rouge, LA; John (Kim) Haynes of Clearwater, KS; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Ella Howard and Carlene (Tracy) Smith; brother, David Horn; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services, in care of Smith Mortuary, to be held 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at Greenwood Cemetery, 6231 W. 47 St. S, Wichita, KS 67215.
