James Joseph Friend, age 67, of Belle Plaine, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017. Visitation 1-8 PM Thursday, March 2, with family receiving friends 5-8 PM, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral service 10 AM Friday, March 3, First Baptist Church, 612 N Linden, Belle Plaine. Jimmie was born November 19. 1949 in Wichita, to Jim and Frances Friend. He attended All Saints and graduated from Bishop Carroll and Sacred Heart College. He was an active 40-year employee of Textron Aviation, originally Beech Aircraft Corporation. He and Tina were married for 29 years. Jimmie was an exceptional Scrabble player and was rarely defeated. He is preceded in death by his parents, James A. & Frances (Raple) Friend. Survivors include his wife, Tina; sons, Jason Wenke (Chandra), Isaac and Remington Friend; daughter, Olivia Friend; brothers, Bob (Debbie), Ray (Holly), John, Larry (Jenny) and Dan Friend; sisters, Joan Friend, Lois Frank (Dick) and Carol Drescher (Russ); grandchildren, Maddie and Myles Martin, Henry and Hope Wenke; many nieces and nephews. A memorial has been established with Forward By Faith, c/o First Baptist Church, 801 N. Logan, Belle Plaine, 67013. Jimmie was a devoted husband and father and will be greatly missed.
