Iris Elmetta Gifford

Iris Elmetta Gifford, age 93, loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother, passed from this earth to eternal life October 9, 2016. Visitaiton will be 1-8 Friday, October 14, 2016 and Funeral will be 2pm Saturday, October 15, 2016, both at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd, Derby. She was born at home in Wichita on September 16, 1923 to Ira B. and Lela Houser. She graduated from East High School, Wichita, and married Merle E. Gifford on December 14, 1941. Iris worked many years at the Valley State Bank in Belle Plaine, and later retired from St. Joseph Medical Center in 1989. She is a member of the Mulvane Christian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Merle E. Gifford. She is survived by sons: George M. (Judy) Gifford of Wichita, John H. (Jeannie) Gifford of Wellington, and Ira Jack (Linda) Gifford of Gulf Breeze, FL; eleven grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren. Memorials have been established with Good Shepherd Hospice, 7829 E. Rockhill St., #403, Wichita, KS 67206.
