Hurshal Sherlan Clark was born on March 14, 1938, in Refugio, Texas, the only child of Hurshal and Ruffie Clark. Soon after his birth, the family purchased a farm and moved to Nashville, AR.
Hurshal graduated from Nashville High School in 1956 and in 1961 earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and Math from Henderson College in Arkadelphia, AR. Upon graduation, he chose a four-year commission with the Air Force, turning down an offer from the Navy. After initial training, Hurshal was stationed at Lowry AFB in Denver, Colorado, where he met Martha “Marty” Diephuis. They were married in South Haven, MI in 1964. The couple moved to Florida, where Hurshal was stationed at Eglin AFB.
Over the next several years, Hurshal and Marty moved frequently from base to base, with assignments in Georgia, Louisiana, Nebraska and the Philippines. Hurshal retired from the Air Force in 1982 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, after 20 years of service. He then worked for Boeing for 15 years, managing logistics for B-52 retrofit programs.
Hurshal enjoyed fishing, growing vegetables and flowers in his garden and hunting for Native American artifacts. He is survived by his wife, Martha, their three sons, Michael (Sharon Marie), Kevin (Beth), and David (Tiffany), and eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to East Point Church of Christ.
