Born September 11, 1921, in Howard, Kansas, Howard Lewis Hitchcock, 95, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016, 8:50 a.m., at Sandpiper Health Care. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edna (“Eddie”) Hitchcock, his brother Donald (“Don”), and his beloved wife of 57 years, Martha. He is survived by his sons, David (Marilyn) and Daniel (“Danny”), grandchildren Aaron and Melanie, one nephew Stephen (senior) and niece Susan, and several dear and special cousins. Dad grew up in Belle Plaine, Kansas, his life there being one of his most precious memories. During WW2, he served in the U.S. Army Air Force Signal Corps primarily in Burma (the “CBI”), monitoring and reporting movements of Japanese aircraft. He returned home and resumed working as a motion picture projectionist/sound engineer for Slothower Theatres of Wichita. In 1958, Dad went to work at Boeing as an electronics lab technician, eventually becoming a supervisor of the Antenna Range until his retirement 28 years later. Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Monday, with family present 5-7 p.m.; funeral December 13 at 2 p.m., both at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Road in Derby. In lieu of flowers (optional), a memorial is established in his name with the Kansas Humane Society-Wichita.
