Homer Jennings

January 23, 1933 — January 27, 2022

Homer Dwayne Jennings, 89, passed away on January 27th, 2022 at home in Derby , Kansas surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Janet Carolyn Jennings. They would have been married for 60 years on February 18th, 2022.


Born in his grandparents home in Emory, Texas, Dwayne was the son of Clarence Homer Jennings and Chlota Dorothy Jennings. Older brother to Jerry Don Jennings. Dwayne’s father, Clarence paid the doctor a cow and a calf for his birth. He graduated from Waxahachie High School in 1950 in Waxachachie, Texas. He served in the Army for 2 years. Dwayne finished his Bachelors Degree at the University of Texas in Science and Electrical Engineering in 1960. Dwayne’s career led him to focus on the field of Aerospace. In the early sixties, he developed and wrote the technical operation manual for Astronauts during the Apollo missions. Later in his career, Dwayne worked on the electrical systems for the international space station. He spent the later part of his career with Boeing as an electrical engineer and retired at the age of 62.


Dwayne enjoyed many hobbies over the years. He would research an interest and enjoy the challenge of mastering a skill. Some of those hobbies were traveling, photography, exploring, inventing, painting and music. Dwayne played many instruments and traveled to music festivals with his wife Janet. Dwayne enjoyed performing with the Great Plains Dulcimer Alliance.


Dwayne will be remembered for his Strength, drive, determination and independence. He led his family by example, showing what it meant to have good character and integrity. Dwayne taught his children to treat others with kindness and respect. His love for animals showed through the years with all of the family pets. His little dogs Bouncer and Dulci brought him great comfort.


Dwayne is survived by his wife Janet Carolyn Jennings, his 4 children and their spouses Michael and Margie Jennings, Susan and Bill Roby, Jennifer and Jeff Faflick, Wynne and Curtis Horne. Dwayne has 13 grandchildren Craig and Ronda Jennings, Michelle and Jeremy Henri, Ashley and Clay Pronald, Alyssa Jennings, Christopher and Hailey Jennings, Emily and Jeff Doramus, Kyle Roby, Andy Roby, Ryan and Kacey Faflick, Dustin and Taylor Faflick, Dylan Faflick, Tyler Horne, Shelby and Kevin Nop. Dwayne has 15 Great grandchildren with two on the way. Maddie and Weston Jennings, Gabriella, Peyton, Caleb, Keegan Henri, Alexis and Louis Vivanco, Jaxson and Mason Doramus, Liam Killenberg, Jakoby Faflick, Rowdy and Harley Allen, Cooper Faflick.


A Celebration of Life will be held on February 12, 2022 at 3:00 pm at the United Methodist Church, 431 South Woodlawn Blvd, Derby, Ks 67037.
