Henry J. "Hank" Walters

April 1, 1943 — August 27, 2023

Henry “Hank” J. Walters, 80, of Rose Hill, KS passed away Sunday, August 27, 2023, surrounded by family. Hank was born to Harry A. and Kathryn (Kenny) Walters on April 1, 1943, in Paterson, NJ. He grew up as a “Jersey Boy” and attended Central High School. At 19, he enlisted into the USAF on May 25, 1962, where he completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Tech Training at Amarillo AFB, and was stationed at McConnell AFB. Hank valued his service to the military highly. Hank attained Airman of the Month and the rank of SSgt. over the course of 6 years. Hank was honorably discharged on May 24, 1968. His service to the community continued as a small business owner and courier for Allen, Gibbs & Houlik.


In addition to the love of his country, Hank was passionate about his family, friends and community. He was a member of the Rose Hill Lions Club and enjoyed spending his free time coaching the local youth sports programs.


He was preceded in death by his parents Harry A. and Kathryn (Kenny) Walters; his brothers Vincent Walters and Robert Walters. He is survived by his wife of 57 Years, Diane (Clark) Walters; his daughters Lisa Piska (Ray Katzer) of Valley Center, Meredith Miller (Jared) of Maize, KS; his siblings Patricia Colt (Jordan) of North Cape May, NJ, James Walters of Toms River, NJ, Rosemary Warzecha (Robert) of South Toms River, NJ, Joseph Walters (Jessie) of Forked River, NJ; granddaughters Lyndsey & Emersyn Piska, and grandson Mason Miller.


A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 11:00 am at Smith Mortuary in Derby, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to Kansas Honor Flight or Wounded Warrior Project.
