Helen Jean Knetzer, 80, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014. Memorial service 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 6, at South Rock Christian Church, 900 S. Rock Rd., Derby.
She worked for the Kansas Turnpike Authority for 27 years, and retired as the first female purchasing agent for the Authority. Helen served the Kansas Federation of Women's Democratic Clubs and the National Federation of Democratic Women in many capacities, including president of both. She was instrumental in establishing KFWDC Robert B. Docking Scholarship. She worked diligently to improve grandparent rights through the Kansas Legislature. As a member of the Silver Haired Legislature, Helen worked to improve the legislative voice of seniors.
Preceded in death by sons Leroy and Craig Knetzer, and brother Ivan Collins. Survivors: children Kathryn Kientz, Belle Plaine; Marilee Kendall, Derby, Kerry Knetzer, Mulvane; Larry Knetzer, Flower Mound, TX; brother, Pat Collins, Galena; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren.
