Helen R. Buchanan of Rose Hill, 85, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went home to be with the Lord Monday, March 7, 2016. Helen was born October 29, 1930 in Wichita to Clifford and Lela Brooks, the fourth of five children. Helen married Ray Buchanan, June 18, 1948. Her life revolved around her family and church. She served in a variety of leadership roles in her church, although her favorite place was the kitchen. She was everyone’s favorite chef. She loved to cheer on her children and grandchildren in their favorite sports and was one of their biggest fans. Helen and Ray have always been actively involved in church and were longtime members at West Side Presbyterian Church. After moving to Rose Hill over 29 years ago they became active members of the Rose Hill United Methodist Church. Helen and Ray loved to travel and fulfilled their dreams with trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and Europe. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; 2 granddaughters, Suzanne and Sara; 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Helen is survived by sons Richard (Linda) Buchanan of Wichita, Bruce (Jere) Buchanan of Derby, daughters Ruth (Steve) Hodges of Derby and Nancy Rapp (Douglas Moe, fiancée) of Rose Hill, 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation: Tuesday, from 1 to 8 pm with family present between 5 and 7 pm at Smith Family Mortuary 1415 N. Rock Road, Derby. Funeral: 10 am, Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Rose Hill United Methodist Church, 19551 SW Butler Rd, Rose Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rose Hill United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 189, Rose Hill, KS 67133.
