Bates, Helen Louise, 93, passed away at home, surrounded by her family, Wednesday, April 27, 2016. Visitation Sunday 1-8 p.m., with family present 5-7, at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral service 11:00 a.m. Monday, at Rose Hill United Methodist Church, 19551 SW Butler Rd. Helen lived in Rose Hill since 1955, and was active in the church and United Methodist Women, Red Hat Society, and the Rose Hill Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene; parents Matthew and Devena Woodhead; sisters Thelma and Myrtice; brother Marcus; and sisters-in-law Mary Virginia, Arlene, and Ruby Carol. Survived by children Victoria (Steven) Gier, Eugene Eric (Maricel) Bates, Matthew (Shelly) Bates, all of Rose Hill, and April (William) Wadsworth of Andover; grandchildren Crystal, David, Kian, Kim, Ryan, Brandon, Whitney, Nathan, Jessica, and Sara; great-grandchildren Sean, Kyle, Cooper, Molly, Annabel, Charlie, and Beau; great-great-grandchildren Ariana and Kyler; siblings Annabelle Knapp and Marlin Woodhead; sisters-in-law Oona Mae Woodhead and Lucille "Sis" Smith; brother-in-law H.L. "Dusty" Kirk, and many nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Rose Hill United Methodist Church, and Gentiva Hospice, 2622 W Central Ave., Wichita, KS 67203.
