Gordon Thomas Howes, Sr. (63), of Powder Springs, GA, passed away on October 10, 2025. Born on September 11, 1962, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, Gordon lived a life marked by curiosity, dedication, and a deep love for his family and passions.

Gordon graduated from Wichita High School East in 1980 and went on to earn his associate degree from Kansas Technical Institute in 1982. A lifelong learner with a sharp mind and an insatiable appetite for knowledge, he not only pursued education for himself but also became a mentor to others in his field.

His professional journey was defined by an extraordinary 38-year career at Worldspan, now known as Travelport, where he was admired by colleagues for his ingenuity and creative problem-solving. Known for his darker humor and unwavering work ethic, Gordon left an indelible mark on those who worked alongside him. His dedication to his craft and the people around him made him a respected figure in the workplace.

Outside of work, Gordon’s life was rich with hobbies that reflected both his intellect and adventurous nature. He enjoyed playing Magic: The Gathering with his children—often competitively—and could always be found at the table during game nights or family dinners. He had a passion for Dungeons & Dragons, board games, chess, bowling, and watching TV series and movies—especially anything involving spaceships. Reading was another lifelong pursuit; he devoured books with enthusiasm and curiosity.

Cruising became a cherished part of Gordon’s later years. Traveling the seas with his beloved wife Peggy brought him immense joy and became a way of life they shared together. Whether gambling onboard or simply enjoying the view with Peggy by his side, these adventures were among his most treasured experiences.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife Peggy Howes; daughter Crystal (Josh) Hutchins; sons Richard (Raven) Howes and Gordon (Lexy) Howes Jr.; and sister Susan Best. He was preceded in death by his mother Bernice Thompson; father Richard H. Howes; sister Sheila Sweet; and brother Leland Howes.

Those who knew Gordon will remember him for his cleverness, dark humor, loving nature, and unwavering presence at every game night or family gathering. His legacy lives on through the memories shared by those who loved him.

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on November 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 North Rock Road, Derby, Kansas. We will hold a service in the chapel and then move to Douglass Cemetery for burial. This service will have a live stream link shared on Gordon's Facebook on the 7th. There will be a separate memorial in Georgia to be planned and announced on Facebook after the Kansas service.
