Golden Joy Hess Sturm, age 78, of Belle Plaine, retired Dillons employee and former Boeing Company employee, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012. Visitation 1-8 PM Friday, funeral service 10:30 AM Saturday, October 20, 2012, both at Hatfield-Smith Mortuary, 219 W. 2nd. Interment will follow at Belle Plaine Cemetery. Joy is preceded in death by her parents, Lester & Jeanne Spencer; her first husband, Gene Hess and second husband, Frank Sturm; her sons, Patrick and Michael Hess; and two brothers. Survivors: son, Jay (Sheila) Hess, of Valley Center; daughter, Teresa Fortney, of Belle Plaine; daughter-in-law, Jill (Darwin) Kinyon, of Missoula, MT; brother, Don (Mardell) Spencer, of Belle Plaine; sister, Kay Sprout, of Peck; grandchildren, Patrick Fortney, Marie (Scott) Heckathorn, Jessica Adams, Zachary, Dylan, Mindy, and Adam Hess; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Braelyn and Codie Heckathorn, and Klayton and Lilly Adams.
