George Hayworth

George Charles Hayworth was born August 17, 1923 in Stella, Missouri to George and Lizzie Hayworth. As a child, his family moved to Dodge City, Kansas where his father was the foreman of a ranch on the Cimarron River. His mother helped cook for the ranch men. The school teacher lived at the ranch. When old enough to attend the first grade, George, along with his teacher, rode a horse to the school house. At the age of 8, the family moved to Ft. Scott, KS. It was in Ft. Scott, where his younger brother, John Stanley was born April 13, 1931. The boys attended schools in Ft. Scott until George entered the service in January of 1943. He had worked at a bowling alley, later parking cars in a garage, and hauling coal. George was a WWII veteran serving in the 21st Army Air Force Squadron, European Theatre. He returned from the service in January 1946 going to work at Swift and Company. He met his sweetheart Mary Jane Mueller in 1946 and married that same year. When the Swift and Company closed their Wichita plant, George went to work for the Gas Service Company in October 1951 and retired 34 years later with them as a foreman. George loved singing and was in a talent show in Pittsburg, KS and later in a band with other friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane. Survivors include his sons, Richard Hayworth (Shirley) of Clearwater and Jerry Hayworth (Donna) of Wichita; daughter, Emily Gallimore (Lloyd) of Macksville; brother, John Hayworth (Michelle) of Derby; grandchildren, Derrick Hayworth (Lexie), Darren Hayworth (Chele), Devon Hayworth (Becky), Dustin Hayworth (Michele), Sgt. Jeff Hayworth (Kate), Scott Hayworth (Laura), Charlene Humbolt (John), Melanie Barkley; great-grandchildren, Dawson, Paeton, Zoey, Nick, Allen, Lauren, Madisan, Kaidynce, Kyleigh, Klaytin, Garrett, Meanna, and J.C; 9 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Viewing 2-8pm Thursday, Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca. Funeral service: 1pm Friday, April 6, 2018, West Side Church of the Nazarene, 2300 S. Seneca. A memorial is established with the church.
