Derby - VanOrden, Francis Christine

89, passed away Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Most people knew her as Chris. She was born September 23, 1935, to Joe and Lillian Brown in Siloam Spring, Arkansas.

She grew up on a farm loving horses. One of her high light was going to Kentucky and seeing the race horse Secretariat.

Chris obtained her master’s degree in education from Southwestern College in Winfield. She taught grade school in Derby for 40 years. Her whole life was dedicated to teaching young children.

In her free time, you would find her working in her yard or flowerbeds. There was nobody in the neighborhood who would have a greener yard than Chris. She had a love for animals especially her dogs and cats as well as watching and feeding the birds in her backyard.

Chris is survived by her brother, Donald Brown of Siloam Spring, Arkansas.

Memorial Service: 10:00 am, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Smith Family Mortuary 1415 North Rock Road Derby, Kansas 67037.
