Fern Denney Nivens

Fern Nivens was a strong willed lady. Family was really important to her. She enjoyed family Sunday lunches and holiday get together. The family reunions were always large filling up the park in Springfield, Missouri. Fern enjoyed watching all the kids participate in sports and band. As her parents aged, she would visit them every weekend. On Memorial Day, she made sure all the graves were decorated. People would never guess Fern was shy since she never started a conversation. If anyone would speak to her first, the conversation began from there. She was hesitant to ask for anything. Fern is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert and brother, William Denney. She is survived by her sons, Shiley Nivens; Denney Nivens (Pam) and Keith Nivens; sisters, Jackie Durnel and Ruth Presley; grandchildren, Jenelle Korte, Emily Nivens, Jansen Nivens, Melanie Holman, Paulina Nivens, Andrew Nivens; 11 great-grandchildren. Fern died Friday, January 12, 2018 at the age of 95 years. No visitation is planned. Graveside services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, January 17, 2018, Belle Plaine (KS) Cemetery.
