FAYE GARLAND NEIL (ANDERSON), 94, died in Wichita, Kansas, on April 2, 2017, after a brief illness. She was born in Wichita, KS, on August 31, 1922, the second of eight children of Reuben Andrew and Iva Fay Gibbons Anderson. Her parents, four brothers, two sisters, and her son, Charles Patrick Neil predeceased her.
She is survived by her daughter, Billie Lynn (Thomas) McDavitt, of Wichita; her grandson, Dr. Thomas A. (Bridgette) McDavitt of Alsip, IL; her granddaughter, Katherine I. (Christopher) Humphrey of Seattle, WA; her brother, Eugene F. (Sandra) Anderson, of Wilmington, DE; two great grandchildren, Grace R. and Thomas J. McDavitt; and a host of nieces and nephews. Faye attended Sunnyside Elementary, Roosevelt Intermediate and Wichita High School East, Class of ‘41. She married William John Neil in 1943. She lived in Kansas, Virginia, Japan, Greece, Switzerland, and Pennsylvania. She retired from the U.S. Government having worked many years as a transcriber for the Official Recorders of Debate in the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C.
Faye moved back to Wichita from Pennsylvania in 2002, and was active in the arts, painting with the Artists at Old Town, and traveling with the Wichita Art Association, Wichita Art Museum and friends. A memorial has been established with Harry Hines Memorial Hospice, 313 S. Market St., Wichita, KS 67202. A private family service is planned at a future date.
