Fay Bernel Oxley

November 13, 1931 — September 11, 2021

On Friday, November 13, 1931, on a small farm in Almartha, Missouri, Ora and John Oxley became the parents of Fay. He grew up with brothers Roy, Ray & Jay, and sisters Moline and Elaine.


He went to school and worked in and around Almartha until he was 18 years old. He then joined the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1949 to 1955, serving on the mine sweeper Pelican. He learned to be an electrician during his service in the Navy and stayed with that profession for the rest of his life.


On May 28, 1955, he married Sarah Josephine Beasley at the "Y Not" General Store in Wilhoit, Missouri. They were married for 55 years.


In 1956 he fathered son Bill an d2 years later daughter Ramona.


Fay and Jo moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he worked at McDonnell Douglas aircraft company, then moved to Mulvane to work for Martin Marietta and Boeing. After a short move to Seattle, Washington with Boeing, they returned to Mulvane where he worked for the City of Mulvane for 25 years before retiring.


Fay was an active member of the Mulvane Christian Church, a member of the Arbor Society, a Little League baseball coach, and active in the Mulvane community.


Fay was a loving grandfather to four, great-grandfather to nine, and recent great-great-grandfather to one.


Fay was also step grandfather to six, step great-grandfather to 16, and just Pops to many more.


Visitation is 4:00 to 8:00pm Friday, September 17, at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral services are 10:30 Saturday, September 18, at Cross Point Freewill Baptist Church in Wichita. Burial will follow in the Mulvane Cemetery.


Memorials are established with the Mulvane Christian Church, and Cross Point Freewill Baptist Church.
