Udall - Shrode, Eva Mae 91, passed away Monday, June 10th, 2024. She was born December 8th, 1932 to Willard Fowler and Grace (Fowler) Dutton in Bentley, Kansas.
She was a cherished wife to Francis Shrode, they were wed on July 16, 1965, they had been married for 51 years at the time of his passing in 2016. They lived in several different towns in Kansas over the years, Larned, Garden City, Dodge City, and Arkansas City. They settled in Arkansas City in the early 90s right before adopting their youngest daughter. She found joy in being a mother to her four adopted children, and countless foster children, nurturing her family and creating a loving home. Her home was also always open to all of the kids in the neighborhood and loved it when they called her “mom” too.
Eva was known and admired for her cooking, baking, sewing, and quilting. She brought creativity and delicious treats into the lives of many, especially with her sausage and cheese biscuits. Her baking prowess led her to win numerous prizes at local fairs, showcasing her remarkable skills, but if you asked her for a recipe, she would say it was all in her head. Her passion for sewing and quilting brought warmth into the lives of those who received of her talents. She would make clothes and multiple quilts for every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. She even made quilts to donate to the pregnancy center in Ponca City. She also loved volunteering her time, whether at church, at her children’s schools, in a senior singing group, or in nursing homes when caring for one of her sisters, receiving a volunteer of the year award in 2004 in Arkansas City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willard and Grace (Dutton) Shrode; husband, Francis Shrode; daughter, Marilyn Anderson; siblings, June Wendling, Violeta "Pat" Logue, Viola "Sis" Martin, Robbie "Bob" Fowler, and Edmond "Bud" Fowler.
Eva is survived by her children, Willard Shrode, Jolene Reason (Ricky), and Kaile Exley (Ethan); 8 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, June 20th, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Smith Family Mortuary Mulvane Chapel 501 SE Louis Blvd. Mulvane, Kansas 67110. Celebration of Life Service: 10:00 am, Friday, June 21st, 2024 at First Baptist Church - Udall 207 E. Lewis St. Udall, Kansas 67146. Interment to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
