Ernest Ray Harris

UDALL- Harris, Ernest Ray, 93, passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Visitation 1-8 Thursday, with family present 5-7, at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Funeral service 2 pm Friday, Udall United Methodist Church, 305 S. Church St. In 1937, Ernest and his brother, Erwin, purchased their first farmland, and continued working it with their families until 1990. He married Ruth Hollingsworth in 1943, then served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1945 as a radio operator. Ernest worked many years at Beechcraft and Boeing, as well as the Soil Conservation Office in Winfield. He was active in the church and community throughout his life. Preceded in death by his parents, son Martin Harris, brother Erwin, and sister Joan Wyckoff. Survived by wife Ruth, daughters Carolyn (Joe) Ramsey, Mulvane, Dianne (Jim) Reuther, Derby, Sandra Groene, Udall; seven grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with Udall United Methodist Church and Hospice Care of Kansas, 917 Main, Winfield, KS 67156.
