Erika Nestor

Erika "Ricky" K. Nestor, 86, beloved mother, grandmother "Oma", and animal rescuer, passed away Monday, April 2, 2018. She was born December 14, 1931 to Jakob and Paula (Deis) Cavalar in Ramstein, Germany. Erika was a supportive wife, proud of her military husband, and a loving mother who will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and for putting others before herself. She loved nature and enjoyed spending time outdoors, tending to her bird feeders, flowers, and shrubs. Erika dedicated her heart and soul to rescuing animals in need. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas. Erika is survived by her children, Christine (Roger) Forrest, Thomas (Christina) Nestor, and Karin Ashley; grandchildren, Nichole Karkins, Brett (Jennifer) McCleaf, Kaitlyn Ashley, and Erik Nestor; great-grandchildren, Cotton, Anna, Maks, and Greyson; sister, Mechthilde Slavens; and nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Kate, and Sean. Visitation: Wednesday, April 4, 2018, from 5 to 7 pm . Memorial Service: 10 am, Thursday, April 5, 2018 with Rosary preceding at 9:30 am; all at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby, KS 67037. Interment to follow at Old Mission Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Wichita Animal Action League, PO Box 21401, Wichita, KS, 67208.
