Elvera M. "Vera" Warwick, age 92, retired US Federal Government Civil and Foreign Service Department employee, including working for the Department of Defense in Mogadishu, Somalia, Africa. Visitation 1-8 pm Monday, April 5, with family greeting friends 5-7 pm, Culbertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca. Recitation of the Rosary 10 am Tuesday, April 6, with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:30, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ost. Vera is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard; parents Joseph and Eva Theis; son, Michael Warwick; daughters, Ramona Huffman, Jeanne Warwick, Susan Warwick; brothers, Gerald Theis, Joseph Theis, Jr.; sisters, Marge Purn, Lee Harbert and Colette Dean. Survivors include her daughter, Laura Kendall; sister, Miriam Smith; grandchildren, Aubre Greene (Jonathan), Jeremiah Warwick (Autumn Wallace), Ashle Kendall (Marcus Graves), Desiree Warwick (Frank Alvarez), Andrew Kendall (Jolene), Alicia Warwick-Ortiz (Roy); 17 great-grandchildren. Vera was born on the family homestead just west of St. Joseph Catholic Church (Ost, KS) to Joseph and Eva Theis on February 24, 1929. She went to St. Joseph Catholic Church School until 8th grade, then graduated from Andale High School. Three years later she left Kansas and headed for California where she met and married a Navy sailor, Bernard Warwick. They were married on December 26, 1953, in Hollywood, California. Vera was a devoted Catholic all of her life. She was a loving mother who enjoyed spending time with her five children while being a housewife. She was a very accomplished woman in everything she set out to do. She was larger than life and enjoyed being with family, especially her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She would go out of her way to do anything for them. She loved to sew for them, go to their extra-curricular activities, taking them to ballets, plays, circuses and air shows. Vera love to sing, dance and act. She was a member of the Wichita Choral Society and a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group. She even went to Carnegie Hall to sing in New York City. She loved to act in the organization The Seniors Act. The Seniors Act were performances to bring joy to seniors all over Wichita. She always lit up a room everywhere she went. A memorial has been established with Interim Hospice, 9920 E. Harry, Wichita, KS 67207.
