Ella Josephine Yuhl, better known as “Jo”, was born March 6, 1923 in Clay Center, KS, to Albert Wilbur McClurkin and Ruby Elizabeth Jansen. She passed away at Derby Rehabilitation Center in Derby, KS, on March 12, 2015. She was 92 years of age. A funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday, March 14th, at Smith Mortuary, Derby, KS. Graveside service and interment will be held at 3 PM Saturday, Greenwood Cemetery, Clay Center, KS. Jo grew up on a farm in Clay County, KS. After high school graduation, she taught in a country school south of Clay Center. She Married Chris Elsasser on May 10, 1942 and they, with their three children, lived and worked on a farm near Industry, KS. Later in life, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked as a bookkeeper until her retirement. After retiring she operated a part-time clothing alteration business. Jo loved to sew and was a member of the Lincoln Sewing Guild and Eastridge Presbyterian Church. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, John and Arlen McClurkin and one sister, Marvel Lee Beaver. She is survived by her three children, Arlie Elsasser, of Lincoln, NE, Karen Miller and Douglas Elsasser (Marilyn), all of Derby, KS. She leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial has been established with Cedars Youth Services, 6601 Pioneers Blvd., Lincoln, NE 68506.
