Elizabeth Doris Mccord

October 17, 1926 — October 29, 2019

Elizabeth Doris Wehmeyer McCord, October 17, 1926, of Kansas City, Kansas died peacefully and surrounded by her family on October 29th, 2019 in Wichita, Kansas. After growing up in the Great Depression, Liz McCord graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1944 where she was the treasurer of Art Club, a member of the year book committee, and of Quill and Scroll: a young journalists’ association. She was hired by the Hallmark Corporation where she worked on and off as a graphic artist and production quality supervisor until her retirement. During those years she was able to create her own watercolor designs that were to be printed on Hallmark cards and stationery, while also being one of the very few given permissions by Walt Disney and Norman Rockwell to re-create their designs on behalf of Hallmark. When not working at Hallmark, she worked as a freelance artist while raising her two sons, John and Michael. She enjoyed crafting in her free time and traveling all over the country in her R.V. with her husband, Rex. She was a member of Stoney Point Christian Church, where she sang in the choir. She married John Donohue Jr. until his death in 1968. She remarried in 1972 to Rex McCord, until his death in 2012. She is preceded in death by her parents William F. Wehmeyer and Leola Mathews Wehmeyer, her first husband, John Donohue Jr., and second husband, Rex McCord. Liz is survived by her sons Kent McCord (Terri) of Olathe, John Donohue III (Lesley) of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Chris McCord (Gina) of Piper, Kansas, and Mike Donohue (Cathy Anderson) of Mulvane, Kansas. Her grandchildren: Nick McCord (Jenny) of Lenexa, Kansas, Brett McCord (Megan) of Olathe, Kansas, Lauren McCord of Lenexa, Kansas, John Donohue IV of Claremore, Oklahoma, Joel Donohue (Sarah) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kimberly Easter (Chris) of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Samuel McCord (Danna) of Kansas City, Kansas, Ana McCord Stults (Patrick) of Dallas, Texas, Kate Donohue of Mulvane, Kansas, Tess Donohue of Kansas City, Missouri, and 14 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her younger brother, Bill Wehmeyer of Canyon Lake, Texas.
