Elizabeth (Beth) Ruth Anderson, 55, died on September 10, 2013 surrounded by family members after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer caused by radon. She was born July 1st, 1958 in Boston, MA, the daughter of Donald W. and Margaret A. (Newell) Anderson. Beth graduated from Winfield High School, Class of 1976, received her B.A. degree from Southwestern College and her M.Educ. from WSU. She was a beloved daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. Reading was a passion for Beth: as a classroom teacher and administrator in Clearwater; as Executive Coordinator for Literacy Instruction for USD 259; as president of The Kansas Reading Association; and book club organizer and member. A memorial service will be held at Woodland United Methodist Church, Wichita, on Thursday, Sept 19 at 10:30 am. She will be greatly missed but happily remembered by her parents, Don and Margaret of Winfield; her sister Karen, Wichita; her brothers, Robert (Mary) and daughters Kelly, Katie and Kerry of Webster Groves, MO; and David (Charlene) and children Emma and Benjamin of WaKeeney, KS and her devoted friends and teacher colleagues. Beth was a very giving and caring person putting the needs of others before her own. She cherished her family and friends and also had broad interests including former students, travel with the family and Rotary Exchange, PEO chapter IP, scrapbooking, teaching loom knitting, K-State football, WSU basketball, Music Theatre and the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival. Beth was a committed Christian and enjoyed her activities and responsibilities at Woodland. In lieu of flowers, Beth suggested contributions to Woodland United Methodist Church, Music Theatre for Young People or the Chris Mikesell Foundation, Clearwater.
