DERBY – Champlin, Effie Caroline (Christensen), passed away April 27, 2011 after a long illness. She was born February 25, 1923 outside Edison, NE, to Theodore & Amelia Christensen. In 1938 she married Vernon Westgate Champlin in Norton, KS. She lived most of her life in Kansas and Nebraska. Effie was at her best working in her yard and working to decorate her home. She was employed at various places early in her life including the Hastings Ammunition Plant making rockets for the war effort. Upon moving to Wichita/Derby she worked for Russell Stover Candies, Drs. Boyd & Morgan, and Henry’s Department Store. She returned to Nebraska to work in the office of Speedway Transportation, owned by her brother, Paul, before retiring back to Derby, KS. Effie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sisters, Edith Baker, Edna Harman, Estelline Brown, Elsie Dunlap; brothers, Ralph and Paul. She is survived by her son, C. Norman (Pam) Champlin, Derby, KS; her daughter, Susan (Larry) Pittman, Olathe, KS; grandchildren, Vincent (Michelle) Champlin, Derby, KS, Trenton (Brittany Heiling) Pittman, Olathe, KS, Angela (Gary) Hawkins, Derby, KS, Chris Turner, Wichita, KS; great-grandchildren, Melissa, Michael and Melody Champlin, Derby, KS, Amanda and Andrew Hawkins, Derby, KS. She will be greatly missed. Memorial services will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, May 1, First Christian Church, Derby. Burial will follow at El Paso Cemetery, Derby, KS.
