Age 78, retired US Air Force TSGT, passed away Friday, July 21st, 2017. Visitation 1-8 Thursday, July 27, with family receiving friends 6-8 Pm, Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. Graveside service 10 AM Friday, July 28, Kansas Veterans' Cemetery, Winfield. Doug is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Emmie Schaper; brothers, Bobby Schaper and Alan Schaper; sisters, Leona Thornton, Edna Schaper, Nancy Schaper.

Survivors include his wife, Carol; sons, Douglas (Sandy), West Palm Beach, FL, Rusty, Derby, and Mark (Jennifer), Murfreesboro, TN; brother, Kenneth "Bum" Schaper, Galveston, TX; Spike Schaper, of Anderson, TX; grandchildren, Alicia Schaper Hobson (Darryl), of Lake Worth, FL, Austin Schaper (Maria), of Loxahatchee, FL, Alexander Schaper, TN, Karlee Schaper, and Perry Schaper, all of Nashville, TN and great-grandchildren. Max, Hayden and Ansley. A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
