Dorothy Ruth Myers

Nov 14, 1945 — Sep 26, 2026

Wichita, Kansas

Dorothy “Dottie” Ruth Myers, 80, passed on the 26th day of September, 2026, in Galveston, Texas. Her passing was a sorrowful blessing. She died peacefully in her sleep, without pain, while traveling—one of the things she loved most.

Dottie was born November 14, 1945, in Huntsville, Arkansas, the daughter of Sarah “Jannie” Burks. She moved to Wichita as a young child and made it her home. Over the years, she worked at Doc’s Steakhouse and Wichita Public Schools.

Dottie was sharp, witty, opinionated, and honest to a fault. An avid reader and enthusiastic traveler, she was rarely not planning her and John’s next great adventure. She was fiercely proud of her family and never missed an opportunity to tell anyone who would listen—and plenty who hadn’t volunteered—about their latest accomplishments. As the family matriarch, she celebrated us, defended us, showed up when we needed her, and never hesitated to tell us exactly what she thought. Our family will be forever grateful that we knew exactly what we had in her—and that she knew how deeply she was loved in return.

Dottie was preceded in death by her mother; her siblings; and two children, Robert Schaber and Ronda Engels.

She is survived by her husband and life partner of nearly 30 years, John S. Myers; daughters, Brenda Calkins (Dennis), Lynnett Smith (the late James), Trudi Myers, Tricia Hayes (Johnny), Trina Willis (Eric), and Amanda Mogoi (Vincent); grandchildren, Amber Kist, Nicole Calkins, Dustin Witzman, Wesley Frick, Henry Patton, Allie Westbrook (Jobe), Alex Hayes, Brandon Myers, Erica Willis, Megan Willis, Imani Mogoi, Conner Mogoi, and Jackson Mogoi; and great-grandchildren, Trinity Kist, Braxton Witzman, Akasha Frick, Aria Frick, Alessandra Myers, Jericho Willis, Hana Willis, Neo Willis, Amori Wells, and Makell Wells.

A private celebration of Dottie’s life will be held. Please contact the family for details.
