Doris A. Cooley

Doris Arlene Reeser Cooley was born on May 17, 1924 in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Her family moved to the Wichita area before she started grade school.

Doris graduated from grade school in Derby, KS then went on and graduated high school from Douglass High School in 1942. She was a high school cheerleader and a member of the drama club. Her senior year she worked part time at the telephone office while going to school.

On August 29th, 1942 she married Harold F. Cooley. They had two daughters, Joyce and Cindy. Harold volunteered to serve in the US Army during WWII in 1944. During this time Doris joined the Cadet Nurse Corp at the Wichita Hospital.

In 1946 they moved from Wichita, KS to the farm north of Douglass. In 1957 they moved the family to the house in town. Doris worked at Boeing for 14 years and was a florist in Douglass for many years. She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church and also a member of the Douglass Senior Center.

Doris was bound and determined to live to be a 100 and she accomplished that on May 17, 2024.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold F. Cooley, parents, Joe and Mina Reeser, three sisters and one brother, Imogene, John and Esther; Daughter Joyce Wright, granddaughter, Bobby Jo Wright. She is survived by daughter Cindy Thomas (Larry), grandchildren, Marty and David Wright, Denise Fieser and Paul Thomas. Great grandchildren Katelyn Witte(Colton), and Griffin Thomas. Nikki, Casey, Brody, Kelsie Wilder(John) and Kirstie Wright. Molly, Sarah and Josh Wright. Multiple great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 10am Thursday, September 5, at the First Christian Church of Douglass, with visitation beginning at 9am. Interment will follow at the Douglass Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, or to the Douglass Senior Center.
