Don V. Myers, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. He was born on February 02, 1932 in Fredonia, KS. Don Myers was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived his life based upon his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, his love for his family and his willingness to serve his country and community.
Don grew up on a farm near Lafontaine, KS under the care of Godly parents. Don had dreams apart from the farm and chose to join the U.S. Navy a year out of high school. Concurrent with joining the service, he married his high school sweetheart Mary Yates. Don served four years during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Midway. Following his discharge from the Navy, he enrolled in college and completed a four-year Mechanical Engineering degree. Don spent most of his engineering career, over 30 years, working at Gates Learjet and Boeing as a designer and test engineer. Following Don’s retirement from aerospace work, he felt a calling to enter Kansas state government and won a seat in the state legislature representing District 82 Derby / Oaklawn. Don was a strong advocate for the unborn and supported numerous pro-life bills while also providing staunch conversative principles. Don often said he didn’t go to Topeka to write and sponsor new bills but to improve existing laws and eliminate useless and bad laws. He served in this capacity for 18 years and he said these years were the most enjoyable and rewarding of his career. Don was well respected by those who knew him. He was compassionate to those in need, patient while listening to other differing views, and above all wanted to leave a legacy for his family and community. Don will be missed for his upbeat attitude and his ability to make others feel special. Don carried this grace throughout his life especially when impacted from a massive stroke. Throughout the years following the stroke, he remained dedicated to his core beliefs of loving and lifting others up.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Mary Myers and is survived by his children, Jerry (Mary) Myers, Lane (Jeanne) Myers, and Sherry (Troy) Wayman; grandchildren, Mitchell (Jill) Wayman, Alex (Danielle) Wayman, Shane (Bridget) Myers, Jacob (Regan) Wayman, Jonathan (Katharine) Myers, Mattea (Nick) Carter, Ryan (Chelsea) Myers, and Rachel (Andrew) Scheidt; and 17 great-grandchildren.
