Donny Ray Berry

Donald R Berry, 64, known to many as Donny Ray, passed away Friday, March 30, 2019. He was born July 2, 1954, to Delbert and Donetta (Hall) Berry at McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS. Don worked many jobs throughout his life, but his passion was music, having performed with many local bands such as Image, Skaggs and Collins, and most recently Phoenix. He also recorded 2 cd’s in Nashville in the late 1990’s, the self-titled “Donny Ray” and his second “Tell Me Honestly”. Music was his life, and his life was described by his music. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Christopher “Darkpoet” Swank. Don is survived by the love of his life Leesa Shumate; brother Jerry (Connie) Berry; children, Shawn Berry, Misty (Brian) Sealy, Wendy Swank, Loni Valentine, Kylie Berry, Katie (Trevor) Ziegler, and Jon Berry; niece Michelle (Scott) Wondra; and the many loving extended family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 – 3 PM on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 431 S. Woodlawn Blvd, Derby, KS, 67037.
