Don was a quiet and humble man. He grew up in the Delano neighborhood of Wichita attending Franklin grade school, Allison and Roosevelt Jr. High and East High School. As a senior in high school Don was drafted by the Army. He served in France as WWII in Europe came to an end. After his Honorable Discharge he returned to Wichita and completed his high school degree.
Don’s diverse careers included Window Dressing at department stores in downtown Wichita, plumbing with his father and repairing typewriters. During his 38-year career at Boeing he worked on the B-47, B-52, KC-135, 707, Lunar Rover, 727 and Air Force One programs. Don considered his 72 ½ year marriage to Margaret his greatest accomplishment. Family, friends, church, model railroading, gardening, fishing, travel and birding provided a full and joyful life. Don and Margaret visited all 50 states, Mexico and Canada.
