Dolan E. Pelley

Dolan E. Pelley, exchanged this life for a much better one on Sunday, March 20, 2016 the first day of spring. Dolan was born in Jolley, Iowa, August 31, 1934 to John Carter and Mary M. (Teague) Pelley. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, brothers William C. and Ronald A. Pelley. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years Donna; daughters, Lori (Curt) Warren, Tam (Steve) Stater of Derby, Pam (Ron) Brush of College Station, Texas, thirteen grandchildren, and nineteen great grandchildren, Donna's son Brad (Carla) Rhodes of Haysville, and daughter Rhonda (Duane) Hertel of Derby, two grandchildren, and sister Sue Baylouny of Hammonton, New Jersey. Dolan and his family moved to Derby in 1968. From that point forward, he was Derby's most enthusiastic promoter. Dolan owned and operated Pelley Auto Parts for 6 years; Dolan's IGA for 4 years and then was involved in Derby real estate as a builder and a realtor for the remainder of his life. He was a long time member of the Derby Chamber of Commerce, Derby Rotary, Derby Education Foundation, Derby Planning Commission and the Woodlawn United Methodist Church. Dolan was instrumental in the development of the Derby Market Place. He was extremely interested in the organized progressive growth of Derby and the surrounding area. Dolan enjoyed community involvement. So much so that he ran for County Commissioner in the late 1990's. He loved to be in the middle of things whether it be a Super Bowl party or a family gathering. Dolan did not let Parkinsons define who he was. He lived and moved to his fullest ability. Visitation will be 4-8pm Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at Smith Mortuary, 1415 N. Rock Rd., Derby. The family will not be at the visitation. The funeral service will be held at the Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 431 S. Woodlawn Blvd, Derby at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with the church, the Derby Education Foundation and the Derby Community Foundation.
