Hatfield, Denzell “Kay,” 69, died Wednesday, September 22, 2010. Memorial service 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 528 N. Merchant, Belle Plaine. No visitation. Floral deliveries Saturday 10-3.


Kay earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Colorado, a Master’s from the University of Texas, and her Nursing Degree from the Wesley Medical School. She retired from the United States Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years of service. Kay was born and raised in Belle Plaine, and moved back after her military service. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Belle Plaine, the Belle Plaine Library, and the Historical Society.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert D. and Juanita (Chapman) Hatfield; grandparents Robert E. and Ramona (McDonald) Chapman, Robert B. and Golden (Guinn) Hatfield. She is survived by brothers Donald James (Jinny) Hatfield of Hawaii and Robert Alan (Renee) Hatfield of Belle Plaine, sister Carol Sue (Walt) Anderson of Belle Plaine; aunt Wanda Waugh of California; 7 nieces and nephews, 3 great nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins. A memorial has been established with Belle Plaine Schools.
