Dennis Wayne Ward

Dennis Wayne Ward, born June 7, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, passed to his Heavenly home on August 18, 2026, while at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, in Lawrence, Kansas, after battling a complicated illness following a successful heart bypass surgery in January 2026. He graduated from ElDorado, Kansas High School in 1964, and from Friends University in 1986.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert C. Ward and Shirley Phillips, Step-Dad, Roy Phillips, his in-laws, Keith and Betty Bishop; and his Sister, Patricia Hall & her Husband, Henry.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Donna; brother-in-law, Ray Bishop & Wife, Deb; niece, Katie Gaston & husband, Nick; nephew, John Blickenstaff & wife, Jennifer; niece, Cheryl Moore & husband, Will; and several great nieces & nephews.

Dennis was employed at various positions throughout his career, including design drafting at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita & Seattle, Cardwell Mfg. Co., Wichita, and RO Corporation in Olathe. He returned to Wichita in 1982 and began his career in the KG&E Transportation Department, both in Wichita and Topeka after the merger with KPL. In 2002 he took early retirement and began working for Alvamar Golf Course in Lawrence, Kansas, doing golf course equipment maintenance where he enjoyed playing unlimited golf.

He enjoyed golfing and working on automobiles, having built a 1930 Model A street rod for his wife, refurbishing a 1970 Corvette, and many other older vehicles throughout his lifetime.

In lieu of flowers or donations, in memory of Dennis, the family requests that a kind deed be done for someone in need.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Greenwood Cemetery, Wichita, Kansas.
