Dennis V. Alvarez

Dennis V. Alvarez, 77, of Mulvane changed his address to Heaven on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Dennis was born December 21, 1943, in Wichita, to Vincent and Betty (Millen) Alvarez. He was raised in Mulvane, and graduated from Mulvane High School in 1961. After high school, he attended Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas, graduating with teaching degrees in both History and Driver’s Education. Electing to further his education, he later graduated from University of Central Oklahoma with a Master’s Degree in Administrative Education. After college, Dennis taught junior high school and was a high school principal, before going to work for Boeing, where he was employed for 32 years. For 15 of those years, he taught Blueprint.

While at Pittsburg State University, Dennis met Diana Hall. They were married January 27, 1968, and settled in Mulvane. Dennis was very active in the community, serving as a City Councilman from 1977-1981, Chair of the Mulvane Recreation Commission from 1984-2004, Chair of the Mulvane Planning Commission from 1989-2003, a member of the Mulvane Old Settlers Committee for 20 years, a member of Mulvane Optimist Club for 25 years, and a member of the President’s Society as a University Fellow for Pittsburg State University Foundation Inc.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Betty, and infant son, Scott Allen.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diana; children, Kaylene Alvarez and Guy Alvarez, and grandchildren, Noah and Emma, all of Colorado; brother Timothy Mark (Lisa) Alvarez of Kansas City; sister, Debra (Rick) Kovac of New York; niece, Brooke Coon of Colorado; and nephew, Michael Alexander of Arkansas.

A Celebration of Life to share memories and stories of Dennis will be held at Mulvane United Methodist Church, 107 S. Central, Mulvane, on Wednesday, June 30 at 3:00 PM.
