Derby - Monk, Debra Kay
67, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023. She was born February 21,1956 to Arnold and Hester (Glessner) Engstrom in Wichita, Kansas. She was one of 6 children; Carlene, Alan, Rexene, Lana and Tina. Debra had extensive family ties on both parents’ sides with many in the Junction City area, which was a frequent site of family reunions and parties. She relished being the “fun” aunt for her many nieces and nephews.
Debbie was a lifelong Wichita area resident. She attended South High and Butler County Community College. She worked 20 years at the Pizza Hut Corporate office and loved every minute there. After leaving, she was employed by Boeing and Spirit AeroSystems for another 10 years, retiring in 2020. Debbie enjoyed being with family, camping together and tending to her flower gardens. She married Kelly Monk in 1985 and together they raised 3 boys. Debbie dearly loved her boys and her 5 grandchildren, (with another on the way). She had a small lapdog named Toby, that was her constant companion and a great source of comfort and frustration. Her family was the center of her world, and she was always doing whatever was needed; from holiday gatherings, from which no one ever went home hungry, to having garage sales to clear things out.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and sisters, Rexene and Lana, their passing was very difficult for her.
Debra is survived by her husband, Kelly; sons, Casey, Cory (Brooke), and Kyle (Shayla); 5 grandchildren; siblings, Carlene Willoughby, Alan (Pam) Engstrom, and Tina (Doug) Lovendahl.
