Debra Kay Bailey

September 26, 1955 — October 5, 2018

Derby – Bailey, Debra “Debbie” Kay

Debra passed away October 5, 2018 at the age of 63 after a brave year long battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Norton and Bette Lacey; and step dad, Jim Hutson; aunt, Alice Lorene Norton. Debbie is survived by her husband, Jim Bailey; her three daughters: Jennifer (Bailey) Collins (spouse Robert Collins II, son Robert Collins III); Rachel (Bailey) Small (spouse Joshua Small, daughter Bailey Kay Small); Christine (Bailey) Perez (spouse Jesus Perez, sons Mateo Perez and Maciel Perez); brothers, Mike Hutson, and Kent Hutson (wife Gina Hutson) and children; aunt, Wanda Ashlock; uncle, Don Norton (wife Shirley Norton); and a loving extended family.

Debbie devoted her adult life to raising her three daughters and being a loving wife, and later, a cherished Nana. Her three girls have fond memories of growing up with her singing everywhere she went and dancing the “twist” all around the house. Debbie loved oldies, and owned almost every Elvis Presley record, as well as his movies. Her heart seemed to only grow with the addition of grandchildren to her life. She is lovingly known to them as Nana.

Debbie’s interest in healthcare led to training as a medical assistant. She later served in a variety of child care roles at church and in schools, as a nursery caregiver, preschool teacher, Sunday School teacher, and substitute teacher. She found her calling in caring for others everywhere she went. Her passion for caring for others went far beyond people, as she was very tender hearted toward animals, which led to the adoption of several animals in need. Her kind heart and love for others was a pillar of her character and will always be reflected in the lives of her children and grandchildren.

Debbie was an active and dedicated member of Haysville Christian Church, whose pastor and congregation supported and uplifted her in prayer throughout her illness. Debbie also received much of her support from the life long friends she made through her commitment to a TOPS (Taking off Pounds Sensibly) ladies group. The inspiration and encouragement that she received, and devoted to the group, went far beyond a simple weight loss journey.
