David Sinclair

74, retired firefighter, passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2023. He was born October 18, 1948 to Ted and Juanita Sinclair in Blackwell, Oklahoma.


Dave worked for the Wichita Fire Department. Oftentimes, he would go to elementary schools and teach children about fire safety. Dave retired as a lieutenant, in 1989, after faithfully serving 22 years. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Friends University in 1996.


After retirement, Dave started doing woodworking and began making custom bases for John Parsons' taxidermy business. Later, Dave started Sinclair's Custom Panels and created custom furniture. He also did all of the woodwork in the home he and his wife built in Derby, KS.


Dave and Nadine moved to Stockton, Missouri where they purchased 49 acres. There they built another house that Dave trimmed. He did research on cattle and tried his hand at raising Galloways and Catahoula Leopard Dogs. Dave loved farming, fishing and collecting Sinclair memorabilia.


He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Sinclair; his parents; and brother, Lendell Sinclair.


David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nadine; daughter, Angie (Mickey Jones) Sinclair; granddaughter, Alyssa Sinclair; step-grandhildren, Haley Jones, Skylar Jones; brother, Ramon (Mindy) Sinclair; sisters, Barbara Trowbridge, Marnita Gaylord; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.


He had an incredible sense of humor and a great love for his family and friends. Dave will be missed by all those who knew him.


Visitation: Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Smith Family Mortuary 1415 North Rock Road Derby, Kansas 67037. Memorial Service: 10:00 am, Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Smith Family Mortuary 1415 North Rock Road Derby, Kansas 67037. Interment to follow at Littleton Cemetery.


Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas Firefighters Museum, 1300 S Broadway St, Wichita, KS 67211.
