David Niederee, MD, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, physician, and community pillar, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at his home. Born, June 19, 1956 to W.C. and Joyce Niederee in Omaha, Nebraska, David's life was defined by energy, purpose, service, and a love for his family, staff, colleagues, and patients.
Born with a spirited drive that never dimmed, David graduated from Great Bend High School in 1974, where he was an undefeated state champion wrestler. A proud Eagle Scout, he embodied the values of loyalty, helpfulness, kindness, and reverence from an early age. It was in those same high school halls that he met the love of his life, Cindy, who would become his lifelong partner, supporter, and steady presence through every chapter of his extraordinary journey.
David continued his education at Wichita State University, graduating in 1978, and went on to fulfill his calling at Creighton University School of Medicine, earning his degree in 1982. His path ultimately led him to Derby, Kansas, where he was a founding partner of Derby Family MedCenter. In Derby, he found a community which he embraced wholeheartedly and served with deep pride.
For decades, Dr. Niederee was known as a compassionate and dedicated family practice physician, committed to caring for generations of families with both medical expertise and genuine kindness. His service extended far beyond the clinic walls. For an incredible 39 years, he proudly served as the team doctor for Derby High School football and wrestling, supporting the athletes, coaches, and families who came to depend on his steady presence on the sidelines.
Yet, even with all his accomplishments, David’s greatest joy was his family. He adored Cindy, his patient and loving wife, and together they raised three amazing children - Ben, Joe, and Amy.
Becoming a grandfather brought him a new spark—six grandchildren who added immeasurable joy, laughter, and purpose to his life.
David lived with intensity and enthusiasm, always giving 110%. Whether he was golfing, flying, scuba diving, hunting, or sailing, he approached every hobby with the same passion he gave to his work and family. His boundless energy inspired those around him, and his zest for life was simply unforgettable.
He leaves behind a legacy of service, love, and unwavering commitment—one that will continue to resonate in his family, his patients, and the Derby community he held so dear.
David will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the countless lives he touched.
