David Clasen

Big Bear Lake, California

David Lynn Clasen, 70, of Big Bear Lake, California, went home to be with the Lord on October 16, 2026. Though his passing came far too soon for those who loved him, we find comfort in the promises of God and the hope of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

David was born on January 25, 1956, in Wichita, Kansas, to James and Donna Clasen of Douglas, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Christopher; and his daughter, Stephanie.

He is survived by his daughter, Jessica, and son, Joshua, both of Wichita; his brother, Jimmy, of Arkansas; his sister, Diane Chambers, of Georgia; his sister-in-law, Janet, of Wichita; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His family was an important part of his life, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Growing up, David and his two brothers and sister enjoyed spending time on the family farm and helping care for their mother's kennel, where she bred Schnauzers and poodles. These early years helped shape the hardworking, adventurous man he would become.

At the age of 18, David was encouraged to serve his country, and he went on to serve six years in the Kansas Army National Guard. In 1975, he married Donna Thomas, and together they raised three children. In 1985, David and his family moved to Southern California, where he built a successful career in construction, serving as a superintendent for several firms. He spent most of his professional life in California, earning a reputation as a man who knew the value of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.

David had a deep love for the outdoors and for the many adventures God allowed him to experience. He enjoyed snow skiing, water skiing, scuba diving, rock climbing with his RAZR, fly fishing, gun collecting, and shooting. One of his greatest joys was flying his Cessna 182, taking to the skies and enjoying the beauty of God's creation from above. While living in Montana, he also served with the Civil Air Patrol.

David believed in working hard and playing hard, and he especially treasured the friendships and fellowship he shared with his brothers in Christ. These relationships were a meaningful part of his life, bringing laughter, encouragement, and a shared bond rooted in faith.

In retirement, David settled in Big Bear Lake, where his faith became an even more central part of his life. He became part of the Calvary Chapel community, dedicating himself to the Lord and developing meaningful friendships through Bible study and fellowship. David was passionate about sharing the Gospel and telling others about the saving grace and love of Jesus Christ. His faith was not simply something he believed; it was something he wanted others to know and experience for themselves.

David will be remembered as a kind and loving man, an adventurer at heart, a devoted friend, and a man whose greatest desire was to share the hope he found in Christ. His life reminds us that while our days on earth are precious, the promise of eternity in the presence of our Lord offers a hope that reaches beyond this life.

Though our hearts grieve his absence, we take comfort in the words of Jesus in John 11:25: “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.”

David's earthly journey has ended, but the love he shared, the lives he touched, and the faith he professed will remain. May those who mourn his passing find peace in God's promises, comfort in His presence, and hope in the assurance of eternal life through Jesus Christ.

Until we meet again in the presence of our Lord, David, you will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
