David Arthur Smith, 74, of Wichita, Kansas, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2024, with his devoted wife, Lana, by his side. Born on June 22, 1950, in Wichita, Kansas, David was the beloved son of the late George and Ruth Smith.
David was a proud graduate of Andale High School and dedicated most of his career to Cessna and Boeing, where he took great pride in his work. In his free time, he found joy in fishing, hunting, and working on cars, sharing his love of the outdoors and hands-on craftsmanship with family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lana Smith, his children, Laurie Lawrence and Joe Smith, and his cherished grandchildren, Brittany Carder, Cameron Lawrence, and Addison Smith. David was also blessed with one great-grandchild, Luxe Espino. He leaves behind his siblings Larry Smith, Patty Webb, and Mary Babbitt. He was preceded in death by his sisters Linda Alderdice and Teresa Pushchak.
David faced his battle with Alzheimer’s with quiet strength and was cared for with exceptional compassion during his final year at Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City.
A memorial service will be held at Smith Mortuary in Derby, Kansas, on January 16, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. David chose cremation, and his ashes will be spread in Colorado at a later date, honoring his love for the outdoors.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation in David’s memory.
David will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his family, and his passion for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
