Daryl Robert Unkel

Daryl R. Unkel, 74, passed away on March 25, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family in Derby, KS. Visitation 1-8pm, family greeting 6-8pm, Tuesday; Memorial service will be held at 2pm Wednesday, March 29th both at Smith Mortuary - Derby, 1415 N. Rock Road. Daryl was born February 1, 1943, in Sioux City, Iowa. He graduated in 1961 from Derby High School. He was a Hospital Corpsman with the United States Navy from 1961-1974. He is a Wichita State University alumni. He retired in 2004 from Wesley Medical Center where he worked as a Medical Technologist. Daryl is preceded in death by his son, Robert “Bobby” J. Unkel; his brother Robin Unkel; his parents Robert E. and Alice M. Unkel. Daryl is survived by his wife, Effat “Fifi” Unkel; his children and their spouses Daryl K. and Leigh Unkel, Deirdre and John Ford; grandchildren Cody Unkel, Cole Carson, Bret Unkel, Tyler Carson, Kyle Unkel, Carter Unkel and Kassandra Ford; aunt Betty Weber of Sioux City, IA; siblings Gary Unkel, Jaynice and Leo Pyle, Randal and Billie Unkel, Kevin and Connie Unkel, Jonn and Diana Unkel, Pam Warren, and Curtis and Barbara Unkel; as well as devoted nieces, nephews, and friends. In lieu of flowers, a memorial is with the American Heart Association 1861 N Rock Rd #380, Wichita, KS 67206.
