Danny Joe Heasley

Danny Joe Heasley , age 74, peacefully passed away Thursday, September 24, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor/Gene and Wilma (Jamison). Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Susan; daughter, Aimee (Ryan) Prettyman, and son, Philip (Kristin) Heasley; four grandchildren, Addison and Jackson Heasley, and Ava and Terrance Prettyman; two sisters, Vickie and Gayla; and one brother, Samuel.

Dan was born December 26, 1951 in Alva, Oklahoma. He was the third child of Gene and Wilma Heasley. Dan attended Wichita Public Schools; graduating from Wichita South High School in 1970. He went on to attend Friends University, graduating in 1975 with a degree in Agri-Science. Dan also attended Christ for the Nations, Dallas, Texas, for one year, 1978-79. Through the years, Dan worked for the City of Wichita, for Fox Meyer and for a number of school districts as a substitute, janitor, and a para professional. He also owned and operated his own landscaping business, Heasley Lawn Service.

Dan married the love of his life, Susan (Ott) on August 5, 1978. To this union, two children were born: Aimee Ruth in October of 1981 and Philip Joel in April of 1984. Dan and Susan lived in Wichita, Derby and Independence, Kansas; Kansas City, St. Joseph, and Springfield, Missouri and Providence, Rhode Island. “Home was where we were.”

Dan accepted Christ as his personal savior in 1975. Following his conversion, Dan followed the Lord in water baptism. Dan worked in Royal Rangers, as an usher, and was a youth sponsor for many years. He wanted to see people come to know Jesus as he knew Him. Dan went on four foreign mission trips. He helped build an orphanage in El Salvador and was involved in youth evangelism in Belgium and Hungary. Dan also went on a medical mission with Susan to Ethiopia in 2015.

Dan enjoyed walking and gardening. His yard was the envy of the neighborhood. Dan never met a stranger. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. He loved lighthouses! In later years, many of Dan and Susan’s travels centered around visiting lighthouses along the east coast and the Great Lakes. Dan also enjoyed history and visiting historical sites like Jamestown, Plymouth Rock, Charleston and Boston. One of the greatest joys of Dan’s life was when he became a Grandpa or Papa as they called him. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren swimming, wrestling, playing games and riding bikes. He loved watching them playing sports, cheerleading and doing gymnastics.

He will be greatly missed.
