Daniel Horton

Daniel “Dan” Gerald Horton, Sr., affectionately known as Pops, beloved father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to many, passed away on March 13th, 2024 in Derby, Kansas. He was born on April 21st, 1947 in Elmira, New York. Dan leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.


He is survived by his sons John (Kathy) Horton, Raymond (Marie) Horton, and Mark Horton. He will be fondly remembered by his granddaughters Kristin Prather and Lori (Mitchell) Green, along with his grandson RJ, and several nieces and nephews.


Daniel was predeceased by his father Charles “Raymond” Horton, mother Julia Carnwright, step-mother Blanche Griffin Horton, brother Eugene “Gene” Horton, brother Charles “Butch” Horton, sister Lillian Gorton, and his loving wife Sheila Horton. He is also predeceased by his children Lori Horton and Daniel Horton Jr., whose memory he held dear to his heart.


Known for his love of dirt racing, western TV shows, resounding laughter, and his passion for playing cards with family, Daniel was a beacon of joy and warmth.

Daniel leaves behind a legacy filled with love, nobility, compassion, and generosity, touching the lives of everyone around him. His spirit and the priceless moments shared with him will remain etched in our hearts forever.


We invite all those who knew and loved Daniel to join us in cherishing his memory and reflecting on the wonderful life he led.

A celebration of life will be held at Peck Community Center in Peck, KS on Thursday, March 28th from 6 to 8 PM. At a later date another celebration of life will be held in Pennsylvania for extended family and friends.
