Daniel Anthony (Tony) Duran

January 21, 1937 -January 31, 2025

Mulvane, KS - In loving memory of Tony Duran, who passed away peacefully on January 31, 2025, in Mulvane, KS surrounded by loved ones. Born January 21, 1937, in Walsenburg, CO toJoe and Della (Roybal) Duran, he was married to Sylvia (Plumb) for more than 65 years. Sylvia predeceased him in 2023. He was the loving father of eight children.

Tony graduated from Richland High School, Richland, WA in 1955. He and Sylvia met in high school and married soon after Sylvia graduated in 1956. Tony worked hard at two jobs to provide for his family. Mainly he was employed as a pressman (printer and photo developer for newspapers). He worked at The Oregonian, Los Angeles Herald Examiner, The Reno Gazette- Journal, and Tri-City Herald, which he retired from in Kennewick, WA in 2002. Tony and Sylvia eventually moved to Derby, KS in their retirement.

Tony was very active in the Catholic Church, serving in the Serra Club and ultimately reaching the pinnacle of Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus in Kennewick at St. Joseph. He continued his work with both in Derby at St. Mary. Once Sylvia was baptized Catholic, they promptly remarried in the church in 1984.

His faith was shared with his children, and he instilled in them the importance of family and hard work.

Tony played trumpet in high school and was thrilled to perform once at the famed HollywoodBowl. This led to a love of music of any kind and dancing with Sylvia any chance they got.Tony enjoyed first and foremost spending time with family, then hunting, working in the yard, traveling to explore new places, and all sports (he was a Babe Ruth coach in Reno).

Tony was lucky enough to see Muhammad Ali fight, Andre the Giant wrestle (and meet him!), attend pro sports games, and many shows and concerts. A travel highlight for him was going to the Vaticanin Italy.

Once settled in Derby in 2003, Tony spent much of his time with fellow Knights and Serra Club members at both church and social functions. His church family was very important to him. They selflessly provided needed assistance in his latter years. For this his family is very thankful.

Tony embraced every person he met as family and made a lasting impression. He always had a smile on his face and was up for any adventure. Tony was predeceased by his wife Sylvia, his siblings Geno, David, and Larry, children Darl, Connie, and Paul Duran, and his grandchild Tejae Carlson. He is survived by his sisters Geri and Martha, children Dan, Susan (Robert), Beki (Mike), Rick, and Stacey (Dave), his grandchildren Robert, Autumn (Matt), Daniel (Katie), Sibylla (Danyal), Lane (Rebecca), Lizzy, Robbie, Natasha (Jason), and Josh, plus many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
