Dale Harpster Cupples

Dale Harpster Cupples, 92, died Wednesday March 2, 2016. He was born June 22, 1923 at home, Wichita, KS. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Frances of 58 years, his parents John R. Winifred Smith Cupples, brothers; John N. Cupples, Earl Sam Cupples, sister, Lorraine Gangel and son Ronald D. Cupples. Dale attended North High School and enlisted in the Navy during WWII. He graduated from Naval electrical training school at Iowa State College and was on the USS tuna submarine as an Electrician’s Mate, third class and fought in Midway. On Feb. 22, 1943 he married Frances Sara Wilson. He was a member of IBEW Local 271 for 75 years., a Ham Radio Operator for 70 years, a member Albert Pike Lodge #303 for 63 years and a member of Cedar Chapel United Methodist Church for 60 years. His hobbies included spending time with his family, ballroom dancing, doing crossword puzzles in ink and golf. He is survived by a sister, Ina Bernice Ingram (Harmon), brother, Victor Cupples (Joan) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. His eyes were donated to help with research with Macular Degeneration. Due to his biannual visits to his eye Dr., his medical records and tissue donation, researchers are very excited about finding a cure. Visitation Thursday, March 10 from 9-11 AM at Smith Family Mortuaries, Wichita, KS. Graveside service is 2 PM Thursday, March 10 at Wichita Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to Cedar Chapel United Methodist Church and Alzheimer’s Association Central and Western KS. Condolences may be left at www.smithfamilymortuaries.com.
