Cleda K. Devasher

March 13, 1917 — April 16, 2015

Cleda Giltner DeVasher, age 98, died peacefully at her home on April 16, 2015. Visitation will be 1-8 with the family present from 6-8 Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at Smith Family Mortuary, 1415 N Rock Rd, Derby. Funeral service will be 10am Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Praise Assembly of God Church, 1125 S Rock Rd, Derby. Graveside service will be 3:30 pm Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Spring Hill Cemetery, Parsons, Kansas. Cleda was born in Parsons, KS on March 3, 1917 to Roy and Zona Wigelsworth. The family consisted of eight girls and two boys. The only surviving sibling is Dorothy “Dottie” (spouse Gene Sullivan). Cleda was married to Elmer L. Giltner on February 9, 1936. To their union, four children were born: Sonny (Deceased in 2011) spouse, Jeanie; Peggy (spouse, Merle Shoemaker); Sharon (deceased 2008) spouse Richard Jones.; and Daryl Giltner (spouse Patty) They were members of the First Assembly of God Church in Parsons. Elmer and Cleda both helped in building the present church. Cleda married Reverend John DeVasher in 1983 and moved to Wichita. John has one daughter, Joan (spouse Karl Krausee). John preceded her in death on September 29, 2003. They were members of Maranatha Worship Center. John and Cleda were very active in the church. They did visitation of the sick and were in charge of the weekly prayer group. In 2010, Cleda moved to Derby to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Merle Shoemaker. At that time, she became a member of Derby Praise Assembly. She enjoyed the women’s missionary group and other church activities. Cleda was always there to lend a hand. Cleda loved her family, which consists of four children, 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great grandchildren, and two great-great-great grandchildren. She was an amazing woman with strong Christian faith and a wonderful example to her entire family and friends.
